  • Avoid sugar, especially sugary drinks, as much as you can. Sugar stays in the mouth, producing acid that works to weaken the enamel. It’s not just the sweet, fizzy, and acidic beverages you need to abstain from to protect your enamel either; natural fruit juices are also rich in sugar. If you can’t stay away from sweets, make sure you drink plenty of water to rinse your mouth of sugar, and don’t forget to brush an hour later either.
  • Seek help if you’re experiencing dry mouth. This can be caused by smoking, medication, and some physical conditions. The saliva is an important component of your oral system. It washes away sugars, chemicals, and other substances that can harm your enamel.
